The Latest 2 Workouts From Zuzka: 5 Minute #64 and Cardio Shred #31; Lisa with BR.TV Is Working On The Advanced Challenge

What did you guys think of Zuzka's latest 5 minute workout and her Cardio Shred?

I liked her 5 minute workout again this week even if it was labeled Abs. I liked the combo of exercises and they work more than just abs:

Workout Breakdown
5 Min AMRAP
1. Dive bomber tippy toe squat jump burpees x 10
2. Sumo Squat Jump Side Bend x 10 alt.
3.  Side Plank to Side plank knee tuck x 5 / 5

Her Cardio Shred this week was definitely more of a cardio workout than a strength based one like they have been in the recent past. Looks like a killer.

Workout Breakdown
Time challenge
1. Kettlebell Swing x 20
2. Hanging Leg raises x 5 to the top
*If you don’t have a pull up bar, do a laying leg raise to butt lift instead – lay on your back and lift both of your legs up towards the sky and then lift your hips off the ground as well. Keep your knees extended and don’t let your legs touch the ground between reps.
3. Double Unders x 20
*If you can’t do double unders, then just do higher jumps with the jump rope. For low impact modification do fast pace squat to heel raise (get up onto your toes as you rise up).
____________
5 rounds – 11:25
+
Jump Lunges x 20reps  x 5 sets
all together little over 15 min
Try those 2 workouts together, add in some rows or pull-ups for a pulling exercise too, and you'd be toast!
Do any of you practice Double Unders? I can do them OK, not nearly as good as Zuzka, but 2 things, when I miss and the rope hits me it is so DAMN painful. I can't stand it. And this is one exercise after having 2 kids that my bladder doesn't like so much, I can barely hold it in! TMI, I know. As much as I love jumping rope, I'm not inclined to practice these.

For those of you interested in a jumping rope program, check this out: click HERE.
It has warm-up routines, conditioning routines, beginner ones, calf training ones, as well as a 4 week plan with videos for EACH day!!!

Lisa mentions on her FB page that she is filming the Advanced Challenge. Despite people asking her more for info on it, she has not replied.
She probably doesn't have an answer. Why not just say so? If she doesn't know when, then admit it! UGH. The non-responsiveness stuff drives me nuts. I get that she cannot answer every request that comes her way, but this is delivering customer service for her followers.
But regardless I am super curious about it and wonder if it will be similar to HIIT Max. I have a feeling it will be and will be LOTS of jumping, burpees, the weighted vest, the jump rope, and a 50/10 style.
From Lisa's FB Page:

Lisa posted a bunch of pics from the Advanced Challenge - but it was sneakers, workout pants, the dogs, and then this one:

Funky sports bra, her abs look awesome of course, but I am not a fan of the lip injections. It seems to be all the rage these days though. A nurse I see clearly has them, I see women at the gym with them lately, and two of the Group Ex teachers I work with have them - as well as Botox, hair extensions, fake eyelashes and breast implants. I must just be an old fart. LOL. Something about Lisa's face just looks very unnatural to me, but she does look pretty. She was pretty before she had work done in my opinion anyways.

She also posted this pic, and I wonder if this is the room the workouts will take place in. Gorgeous!

OK, off to do my own workout. I'm not as motivated on Saturdays, but here I go! Have a good weekend everybody!

  1. If it's the room for the new workouts, it looks pretty much like the old Zgym when Zuzka was working with Win

    1. I didn't see the resemblance, but I see it now. It is in Ontario I believe though, not LA.

  2. I barely care enough to wear make-up these days. I can't imagine spending all that time, money, etc on appearances. Then again, I'm an ICU nurse so who cares how I look! Probably would be a different story if I was in front of the camera, promoting a brand. Different strokes for different folks!

I'm enjoying zuzka's 5 min workouts and I thought the latest one was great. It looked like a lot of fun, which is something she seems to be promoting lately. Good on her.

I have a feeling this advanced challenge by BR is just gonna be jumping, jumping and more jumping crammed into 50s work, 10s rest. Boooring. ZzZz...

    1. This question is for you, Gina and anyone else that would like to chime in...what various workout formats would you like to see? (I don't mean strength versus cardio - I mean other than 50/10 and tabatas)

      Looking forward to your responses!

    2. Hi Jacqui, nice to see you here again :) I know I will sound boring, but I actually like 50/10 a tabatas :) But since you are asking...I also like to push myself sometimes and do 1:30/15. Also sometimes I do longer coundowns - like 5 minutes spent on 1 long combo (for example I set the timer for 5 minutes and do a combo of 2 switch lunges+burpee+push up+row+push+row+2 knee tucks+squat and press and then repeat the whole thing, as many as I can until those 5 minutes are gone). But I am not sure if this would suit the taste of bodyrock followers.

    3. Hey Jacqui! Thanks for asking!
I would love to see different rep schemes of workouts.
For instance, something like 7 rounds of 7. Pick 7 exercises, do 7 reps, 7 rounds.
Or even something simpler like push-ups, rows, jump squats and hip thrusters - but 8 reps each, but going straight for 15-20 minutes, taking rest when you need it.
I would also like to see super-sets on the same body part - so something like rows and reverse flies, chest press and push ups, lunges and squats, etc.
Or drop-sets for the same body part.
Also, increasing weight as you go along, but decreasing reps, so maybe 5 exercises with 12 reps, then 10 reps, then 8, then 6 using your heaviest weight.
      I too LOVE KB's.
OK, sorry, I could go on forever. LOL.
But you are a GREAT host Jacqui! Thanks again for asking. :)

    4. I think that the main problem with BR is the lack of consistency in the workouts. Sometimes there is a challenge, sometimes there is the daily hiit for a few weeks and then nothing is advertised. I can't stand visiting the website because of the adds, I which BR would post a daily workout on their social media.

    5. Hi Jaqui if you will still read
I like various different styles so that different days would be different stuff like this:

Monday: Strength workout for reps (like the 8x8 or using a push, a pull, a leg and an ab exercise for 12 reps each, 4 rounds or 8,10,12,15 reps etc.)

Tuesday: Balance and stability (could be longer intervals, like how Shawn did it in the Transformers Challenge - 4 min split into contant 30 sec one exercise and 30 another exercise followed by 40 sec rest)

Wednesday: Cardio day (could be ideal in tabatas, 50/10 or maybe 25/5)

Thursday: Power day (switching a heavy power move like snatch or clean and press for 30 sec with a static movement for 30 sec - so having 30 sec all out and 30 sec static "rest" to produce a restless workout)

Friday: Competition workout (such as an AMRAP or a 100, 300, 1000 whatever rep challenge as fast as possible)

Then people could rest or do their stuff in the weekend and get back to a new week - same format, different exercises. This would give stability in the schedule, but variation in the ways.
The larger amount of strength, balance and static would be less taxing on the joints than thousands of tuck jumps as well :)

  3. Hi Jacqui, thanks for your interest! I agree with Lena, with the countdown suggestion. Another suggestion is pyramid style, or ascending reps/descending weight or vice versa. Again, like Lena said, I'm not sure this would translate well with the target audience. I realize with the home workouts and limited equipment this would be difficult to implement.
I guess from my own experience, I "outgrew" bodyrock a long time ago. I plateaued very quickly and needed something else, needed progressions, skills, etc.
I guess what impresses me about Zuzka and keeps me interested in what she's doing, is that she's really involved in skills acquisition and finding new ways to exercise. She also has something that appeals to a variety of people. For example, I enjoy her 5 min Fridays because it's something quick I can add on to my own workout if I feel I need a last little burnout. I like that she uses Kettlebells too, as I am an avid Kb user and they are incredibly versatile. The basic kettlebell has more bang for your buck than the bodyrock bar with the limited weights. But that's just my opinion... There is a bit of a learning curve to Kettlebells, so that's the downside.

    I'll stop rambling now :)

    1. I agree with all that you said (and this happens rarely to me :))
I´d love to see pyramid or ladder style workouts, that would be cool.

    2. Agreed!! BR got a bit stale for me, but I love that Jacqui is checking in :) I may just revisit soon. I'm always impressed with the value of ZGYM (usually sign up part of the year until work sends me away and then im happy to brush up om repeat workouts and really practice on my own). Tabata is awesome for jump rope where i get tired and start tripping - very frustrating if i dont use intervals. Ive been missing the old BR workouts with a once pr twice annual beast workout of 45-60 mins. the 600 rep workout or the 400 burpee one come to mind.
      (also ranting...oops)
