No New ZGym Schedule for the Week - Yet, BR Day #46, and what's next? Rumi has another Killer Workout, Addicted to Fatigue?

Zuzka has NOT posted the new workout schedule for this week yet. She has been more timely the last couple of weeks, so not sure what is going on this week. I'm 3 hours ahead of her, so hopefully it is posted by morning. After all that has gone wrong with ZGym in the past lets hope she continues all the good changes she has made in the last few weeks.
I'm still a little peeved that she never ONCE acknowledged ANY responsibility for all the went wrong with the changes of ZGym, but she has done some great work over the last couple of weeks.

BR posted Day #46. Another 50/10. More Burpees. More Push ups.
Lisa made a speech at the beginning that though the strength part that's offered is not easier - she gives us the option in case the cardio gets to be too much. Hmmm?
If you go heavy enough the strength part would be HARDER wouldn't it? But I DID like both the cardio move and the strength move a lot. I probably would switch between the two of them throughout the workout. I also loved Lisa's crazy pants.
I did not like the push up knee touch kick thing-ama-jig. LOL.
But I actually DID like the Roll spider push ups Burpee Tuck.

Lisa commented that this is the last week together until after Christmas. Hmmmm.... what if you are a Plus member? Are you going to be paying for a month of nothing?

Rumi has another killer workout posted as well. (http://fitnessrum.com/day-16-level-3/). I love her combo of the downward dog into shoulder raise move. Gonna use that one in my core class this week. I am trying to put together a high intensity core class for Friday because it is the day after Thanksgiving and everyone will want to burn some extra calories. But it's not the usual kind of 50/10 jumping around kind of class so I need to be creative with the high intensity moves.

I have a Thanksgiving workout for you guys that I will post on Wed so you have it for Thursday. :)

Here is an interesting read for your HIIT junkies. Let me know what you think!

I asked Bret himself as to what he thought about this kind of crazy training and his response?
No, you don't need to be doing it. If you're training to have the most endurance possible? Then yes. If you're training to have the most strength possible or the best physique possible, then no. Powerlifters and bodybuilders avoid this stuff like the plague. Not saying you can't do any conditioning work, I'm just saying that you have to prioritize getting stronger ........, and it's not easy getting stronger when your body is zapped from conditioning workouts.

And for those of you who think that HIIT is the only way to go - here are a couple of great stories to read about women who switched over to strength training instead.

Remember - the stronger you are, the better you look!

I have a friend who runs 4 half marathons and one full marathon each year. She can swing a Kettlebell forever, spin the fastest and hardest every spin class, box jump til she's dead. but she cannot touch her toes, do a single pull up or do a single push up. Just something to ponder. :)

  1. I have to say I think we get what we train for - we are not naturally made to squat 400 lbs or run a marathon. We are designed to lift a max of our own bodyweight (+ up to 100 lbs for very short periods of time) and run/walk 15 km (approximately)
I think it is important to accept, that fitness has a few criterias and none of these are physique. In my opinion they are: Speed, strength, endurance, agility, flexibility and power. All of these are equally important and should all be included in a balanced training program :)
Love your blog and luckily Zuzka has posted the shedule - are you continuing in the ZGym after the 1 $ offer expires? :)

    2. I think Z's workouts are great for speed and agility - and for endurance if you do a couple in a row - but for strength and power they just dont cut it! You need explosive olypic lifts and compound lifts with HEAVY weights! As far as flexibility go, some may feel it improve, but i need my full hour of yoga to feel the benefits :)
Thanks for your opinion on the ZGym :) I have collected all of the workouts and concider if it is value ;) Think I am gonna stay for december and see what the new year has to offer :)

    1. Rachael - I like lifting heavy. I do actually really like HIIT workouts - they are addicting and I think sometimes you feel like you get more out of them because you get so gassed and out of breath. But I can do several HIIT workouts in a row. I cannot however lift heavy for several sessions in a row. My muscles - mot my breath, are far more fatigued. Then I feel like my muscles get more out of it. I was part of a train the trainer course this weekend and we did FIVE HIIT workouts 3 of them were 7 minutes long and 2 of them were 20 minutes long. I was DYING. But I was not sore the next day. The adrenaline rush was fantastic. But I didn't feel like my shoulders, glues, abs, etc got the muscle work it needed - just the endurance work.

  3. I like Lisa's pants too. At the end of the workout on Friday she says that she want be back with hiit max 2 till Jan 1 st . but there is going g to be all kinds of those ebooks coming out so I don't know. Honestly it doesn't bother me because I feel like she let me know so I can expect it it may be childish but w the zgym and I was so upset just cause I didn't know what was happening should I just wait and the workouts will be there later now I know there won't be new ones so I'm already thinking of what I'll do instead.

    1. The not knowing was really annoying. I'm sure Lisa will let us know what is going on. I'm just curious for those who pay the monthly fee what they will get between next week and New Years.

  4. I like Rumi, she is a very lovely person and has really nice workouts. BUT i was disappointed to see her performing a dummbell swing.

This is most definitely not a swing, but some kind of front raise with a reverse squat thing. I've seen this performing by Tatianna from Lovingfit and Gina Aliotti, who won several fitness contests. They all do front raises and call them swings! I don't know why fitness pros do that. They need proper education on technique, otherwise don't include this exercise in your routines!

    1. I see A LOT of people do swings this way - even with Kettlebells. I think dumbbell swings like Rumi is doing is commonplace even in many fitness classes that I see around the gyms I work at. They are NOT the same thing as KB Swings - which should never be done that way. The DB "swings" especially with a lighter weight is a fine exercise, but perhaps they should have another name since it is technically quite different.

    2. Thank you for your note. You are right, this is not swing. Sometimes it is hard to name exercises that I think of. As, Gina mantioned, with light weight it is ok. From my exprience most people workout with less than 5 lbs dumbbells. In my new workouts I explain when I do for example row from isometric squat, that with light weight this is ok, but with heavy weight it is not good for lower back. There is a big difference working out with 5-10 lbs and heavy weights. The site you mention is old, I started a new one and now I am very carefull naming exercises and explaning what is right and what not.

    3. Thank you, Rumi for your response! Keep up the good work, you put together pretty amazing workouts :)
Gina, I saw Gina Allioti doing kettlebell "swings" with a light kettlebell (plus she named it kettle bell, I really don't like it when people call kettlebells kettle bell or even kettle ball! And she is a fitness pro after all). I follow her on FB and made a comment about them not being swings but front raises, but didn't receive any answer.

    4. I've seen KB swings done online by Fitness Pros incorrectly SO many times. I prefer to see people do them with DB's instead and do DB 'swings' as it really is another exercise all together. LMK if you get an answer. I've seen Jillian Michaels do a crazy maneuver with one that got her a lot of kick back, and Emily Syke do them completely wrong as well.
